There are some inquiries that still, eleven years into my career, make me a little nervous. A sunrise couple’s session on the beach during the foggiest part of the year was one of them. We’d just collectively survived Winter Storm Uri and I’d be lying if I said I thought I’d be able to be my fun, creative self around a couple and their pup, but these this family made it so SO easy to enjoy the change of season.

I had been dropping big hints that I wanted to see our dog, Doc, down at the coast, because he had never experienced it. So, for my Valentine’s Day gift my husband said the time is now. When we started planning for the weekend getaway to Port Aransas I thought this occasion would be the perfect time to get professional family photos, because our last shoot was over 5 years ago.
I started with a Google search for top rated photographers in the area and was drawn to Mae Burke Photography’s portfolio right away. She has a keen eye for composition. The families were relaxed and not staged. I loved that she used only natural light. When I emailed about availability she responded quickly and was easy going. Booking was easy through her website.
Mae then offered to give a consultation via FaceTime to talk about location, wardrobe, and general tips. When we spoke over the phone she made me feel so comfortable and I was assured we were in good hands. Even before the shoot I knew we were going to be getting great photos and I was excited for the weeks leading up to it. I wanted the wardrobe to be perfect and was comfortable asking Mae for guidance. We went back and forth several times and she was so kind and patient through all my excitement. Together we decided sunrise would be best because it would come up behind the pier. That meant getting there super early and Mae was down for the cause.
We met at 6:30 a.m. and my husband built a fire on the beach. The fire was another one of Mae’s great concepts. Her only direction was not to look at the camera and to cuddle together. From then on my husband, dog I had a wonderful time at the beach. It felt as if a long-time friend was hanging out with us snapping photos occasionally.

Fall 2020
I got to spend the busiest part of my year with some of my favorite clients, as well as plenty of new families here in Rockport. I greatly missed my flight to DFW to visit all my people up there, but I am grateful I was able to work here at home. I met these families out on the beach, in their homes, on their ranches - in their element. This fall was full of joy I couldn’t have imagined and I can’t say thank you enough to each family that invited me into their space.

Summer 2020
This summer has been different than any other, and I’m so grateful to have been able to continue to photograph my clients. Families, couples, and small businesses worked with me to safely get the images they want and need to document this time and promote themselves. Almost all of these images were taken at home or on the shore in Rockport, Texas
Before I get into the rushed and rowdy fall season, I wanted to share a few images from the summer that I absolutely loved.
This fall and winter promises to bring more time with our very closest people. I am so grateful to have shared these moments with each of these beautiful people.
