Blue Eyed Baby Blues

Kimi is the sister of another one of my favorite clients. I photographed her earlier this year while she was still pregnant. The forecast predicted rain and gunk so I jumped the gun and moved her session to the middle of the day. When we arrived in Port Aransas... there was not a cloud in the sky. Fully on, noon sun. I was a little devastated.

I offered to photograph her again in the future once the baby arrived to make it up to her since she lives in Houston (about 4 hours north of here). So with her sweet girl turning six months old, and her nephew arriving last week, Kimi made the trip down again. And wouldn't luck have it that her sweet girl started teething on the way down.

I felt so bad for the little sweetie, but you know what? These are some of my very favorite images. Sweet girl just melts into her parents arms, the way us mamas always want to remember our babies.

This is what photographic authenticity is about, and I'm forever grateful for clients who appreciate it.

Black & White Love

I want to let you in on a little secret... I struggle with my black and white portraits.Well, maybe you already knew that ;] It is something that irritates me regularly. When I take a photo, I usually have in mind exactly the finished product I want to walk away with. Nothing is more frustrating for an artist to have a picture in your head that you can't get out, and that's what black and white photography is to me. I look at my subject and see this image all dramatic in black and white and gray... and I just can't get my camera or my editing software to make it come to life.

This has been my biggest investment this year, my black and white skill. I'm still not happy, not completely, but I wanted to share where I am right now :]

Twin Belly on the Bay

A while back, my husband, of all people came home from work and said "Do you remember a Jenna M from high school? Well they've had a long pregnancy journey and they're finally pregnant. WITH TWINS!"First of all, I love that my husband knows me well enough to know any pregnancy news is worth telling me, because I just love babies, ha! Secondly I thought "Well, her photographer she will be lucky, I bet she's GORGEOUS!"

Imagine my surprise when a few months later I got an email from her asking about a session!

Jenna and her husband are such a very sweet couple, and she is carrying these babies (one boy and one girl) just beautifully! And I must add, their sweet fur baby did AMAZINGLY well. He's going to be such a good big brother :] I am over the moon excited to meet these babies this winter and am thrilled this woman gets to experience motherhood this way.
